Dropfleet Commander

‘Ghosts of Meridian’

A commission to create a series of art pieces based on TTCombat’s ‘Dropfleep Commander’ 'boardgame.

This was commissioned through their flagship shop ‘Troll Trader Bromley,’ who ran a Dropfleet learn to play / beginners event narrative league called ‘Ghosts of Meridian’.

The event ran for 6 weeks.

A little of the process below…

The brief and narrative context for creating the pieces.

  • A golden age of humanity beacon has been activated on a abandoned planet, a former archaeological world in a system of worlds that are either dead (or are they) or broken: The Meridian System

  • The UCM dispatches a fleet to this system to investigate, lead by an up and coming admiral (The player)

  • Only part of the fleet exits fold space (this universes version of hyper space) at the same time in the system and are attacked by a small force of (whatever the other person is playing)

  • The battle takes place over a broken world with 3 civilian golden age space stations in orbit

  • Fragmented data is recovered from the space stations

  • More of the fleet exit fold space and link up with the admirala
they attack a force of (what the other player is playing) over a lifeless barrow world
they spot a strange ship with unknown marking lurking in the outskirts of the system which quickly jumps away

  • A strange power surge is detected on a planet thought to be completely abandoned, they investigate and find a force of (insert other players faction here) in orbit, a battle takes place

  • They find data on an unknown force that is two steps ahead of them (this will later be the big bad)

  • They arrive at the planet where the beacon was activated which also happens to be a old archaeological site and find a symbol etched into one of the walls in the chamber, a hand with the PHR logo on the palm
they are attacked again, the last of the fleet exits fold space, the fleet regroups

  • After the battle they detect a fold space jump on a nearby planet

  • They arrive to find a PHR force guarding it

  • They battle the PHR and force them off

  • They discover a stealth generator that is hiding a massive PHR force that is stationed on a nearby moon

  • Most of the PHR jump away before the fleet can arrive but a large force remains to defend it
After the battle you are given a broken down and part redacted intercepted message which ends the narrative
